Developers Council Annual Growth Forum
October 20, 2009, 2:00 - 5:00pm

Building Sustainable Communities:  How do we create cleaner and greener with balance?

The Growth Forum provides an in-depth update on the recommendations of the City of Charleston's Green Committee, and update on major road projects and an overview of a new Sustainable Growth Ethic by the Chamber.

This afternoon will include:

  • The City’s Green Committee Chairman, new Sustainability Director and Green Committee Sub-Committee Chairs for Transportation,  Land Use and Buildings will present an overview of their work and their recommendations for City Council.
  • Charleston County passed a ½ cent sales tax in 2004 to fund road improvements, public transportation and a greenspace plan.  A number of major road projects are either underway or about to begin. Kurt Taylor, Charleston County Deputy Administrator, will provide an update on the road projects being funded through the County’s ½ cent sales tax program.
  • In 2004, the Developers Council developed a Growth Ethic that the Chamber’s Board of Directors unanimously adopted.  The Growth Ethic is being relaunched as a Sustainable Growth Ethic by the Chamber’s Regional Advancement division.  Learn about this new effort and how to get involved.
